Suspensions - Anti-Scumming, Colouration and Quality Control
Anti-Scumming
Manufactured since 1990 Norkem BAC60 became the industry standard for the treatment of soluble salt scumming. Launched in 2000 Norkem BAC70, a higher concentration of Barium Carbonate in water has taken over as the main anti-scumming product used in Europe.
Barium Carbonate can also be supplied in powder, free flowing or granular form, in 25, 1,000
kilo or bulk silo deliveries.
Colouration
We also manufacture a wide range of body colours in suspension form along with individually developed surface stains and engobes.
For grey, brown or blue colours use ColorMax N70, manganese oxide suspension.
For black colours use ColorBlack N70, manganese dioxide suspension.
For grey colours or purple colours use ColorChrom N70, chromite suspension.
For ruby red, purple or red enhancement use ColorFerox N60, iron oxide suspension.
For orange, ochre or yellow colours use ColorTitan N70, titanium dioxide suspension.
For orange, pink or yellow colours use ColorTitan B701, titanium/calcium carbonate suspension or ColorCalc N77, calcium carbonate suspension.
Surface Colouration
Norkem is able to supply you with engobes, frits and surface stains to suit your exact requirements. Our Technical Ceramicist will custom-make just the right recipe for your application.
We can develop all colour shades of engobes and glazes and supply these to you as powders or liquids. We specialise in thermoresistant pigments, of all colours and for all temperatures, and all grades of frits including lead free frits and low temperature frits.
Quality Control
Quality takes number one priority during the production of all our body and surface stains. All raw materials are checked
on receipt to ensure they comply with our demanding purchasing specifications.
Raw materials for suspensions are critical since particle size affects the ability to suspend the product in water and then
the subsequent shelf-life of that suspension. Several samples are taken during the production of each batch to ensure full dispersion and correct final viscosity.
Samples are retained from each production batch for six months from date of manufacture and these can be referred back
to by both Norkem and our customers in the extremely rare event of a complaint.
