FEMAS is part of an ongoing strategy to build confidence in UK livestock production through the safe use of animal feed. The scheme provides a mechanism for feed material suppliers to be independently and externally audited and as such it plays a major role in fulfilling a fundamental requirement of UFAS (Universal Feed Assurance Scheme) which ensures safe feed production. The process of producing safe animal feed is made considerably easier when the feed materials used are themselves assured and this is the principle upon which FEMAS is based. a
